Richard Couzens

Company Secretary at Headington School

Richard Couzens is the current Company Secretary at Headington School. Richard previously worked at the UK Ministry of Defence from January 2010 to April 2013 as the Procurement Director - Colonel (Army). In this role, they were responsible for strategic planning, identifying new equipment requirements, resource management, investment appraisals and communication with key stakeholders including Government Ministers and Defence Board members across Whitehall. Richard was also accountable for the £2.4bn Land Engagement programme, providing complex weapons, STA and delivery systems to support current operations during a significant period of fiscal uncertainty and transformation.

From May 2006 to September 2007, Richard Couzens worked as the Capability Manager Theatre Airspace. In this role, they were the Capability Director and Programme Manager for the £5bn air defence portfolio. Richard was responsible for Urgent Operational Requirements (UORs), stakeholder management, negotiating with industry, directing research, and allocating funds to individual project strands. Richard was also the lead for the Networked Enabled Airspace Defence and Surveillance Programme (NEADS), Counter Rockets, Artillery and Mortars (C-RAM), and current in-Service air defence platforms.

Richard Couzens attended the UK Defence Academy, Shrivenham where they completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course. Richard then went on to Cranfield University to obtain their MA. Richard also attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.

Their manager is Caroline Jordan, Headmistress. Richard Couzens works with A-M Stanton-Ife - Deputy Head, Academic, A Proctor - Deputy Head, Pastoral, and J Crouch - Head of Prep.
