Joey Nelson, PhD has worked in a variety of roles in the research science field since 2008. From 2008 to 2010, they were a Teaching Assistant for Stochastic Processes, Senior Resident Advisor and Multiculturalism Co-Chair, and Research Intern for Computational Mathematics at the University of Virginia. In 2010, they were a Geology Research Intern at the Department of Geology and Geophysics, University of Minnesota. From 2011 to 2016, they were a Doctoral Researcher and Program Assistant for the Stanford Earth Summer Undergraduate Research Program at Stanford Earth. In 2016, they were a Co-Instructor for Global Environmental Problems at California State University-East Bay. From 2017 to 2022, they were an Undergraduate Advising Director and Lecturer, and Post-Doctoral Research and Teaching Fellow (Lecturer) at Stanford University. Since 2022, they have been a Manager of Research Science and Senior Research Scientist at Heirloom, and a Scientist at Exponent.
Joey Nelson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Sciences and Mathematics from the University of Virginia in 2011. Joey then went on to Stanford University, where they obtained their PhD in Geological and Environmental Sciences in 2017. In 2021, they were awarded a Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Proficiency Certificate from Stanford University IT.
