Neuroscience Program Leader at Heptares Therapeutics

Clíona MacSweeney has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. Most recently, they worked at Sosei Heptares, starting in 2017 as the Associate Director of Translational Sciences and later becoming the Neuroscience Program Leader in 2020. Prior to that, they were the Business Development Manager Europe at OracleBio from February 2017 to October 2017. Clíona also worked at Biotrial from 2011 to 2017, first as the Head of Translational EEG Group from February 2015 to February 2017, and then as a Non-clinical Research Specialist in Business Development from February 2011 to February 2017. Clíona had a role at Merck as a Group Leader from January 2009 to January 2011, where they demonstrated project management skills and contributed to the successful development of preclinical compounds. Before that, they held positions at Schering-Plough Research Institute from January 2007 to January 2009 and at Organon from January 2001 to January 2007, both as Team Leaders in the Neurobiology Section. Finally, Clíona MacSweeney began their career at Biotrial as a CNS Project Leader from June 1996 to December 2000. Throughout their career, they have accumulated a wealth of experience in various roles and has proven their ability to work in international and multidisciplinary settings.

Clíona MacSweeney's education history begins in 1988 when they enrolled at the University of Galway and pursued a degree in Biochemistry, which they completed in 1992. During their time at the university, they also received an Undergraduate Research Scholarship from Harvard University in 1992, where they focused on the field of Biochemistry. Following this, Clíona returned to the University of Galway and completed their studies in Pharmacology with a specialization in Neuropharmacology from 1992 to 1996.

In 2021, Clíona pursued further education at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine and obtained a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine in 2022.
