Lead Scientist At Sosei Heptares at Heptares Therapeutics

Tian Geng has a diverse work experience spanning over 15 years. They began their career as a Researcher (MSc placement) at Boots Healthcare International in 2007. The following year, they worked as a Technical Assistant at The University of Nottingham, providing technical support for a research project focused on the transmission of illness in animals through insects. From 2008 to 2011, Tian Geng served as a Research Technician at Imperial College, London -- Membrane Protein Laboratory (MPL) at Diamond Light Source Ltd. They then joined Imperial College London as a PhD student, conducting structural studies of membrane proteins and focusing on the histamine receptor H1 in complex with antihistamines. Following the completion of their PhD, Tian Geng worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Imperial College London from 2015 to 2016. During this time, they also joined Sosei Heptares in 2016 and took on roles of increasing responsibility, becoming a Senior Scientist I (Crystallography). In this role, they led crystallography efforts in the development of oral anti-viral small molecules targeting the main protease of SARS-CoV-2 as potential COVID-19 treatments. They also spearheaded serial crystallography projects to address challenges in drug target identification using synchrotron and free electron laser technologies. Recently, Tian Geng has assumed the position of Senior Scientist II (Crystallography) at Sosei Heptares, indicating their continued expertise and growth in the field.

Tian Geng completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Life Sciences at Northeast Normal University from 2001 to 2005. Later, from 2006 to 2007, they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Applied Biomolecular Technology (for the Biopharmaceutical, Food and Biotechnology Industries) at the University of Nottingham. Tian Geng's highest level of education is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Membrane Protein Laboratory (MPL) at Diamond Light Source, which they obtained from Imperial College London spanning from 2011 to 2015. In terms of additional certifications, they obtained First Aid at Work from St Johns Ambulance in September 2020.
