Gijsbert Grotenbreg

Vice President, Biology at HI-Bio

Gijsbert Grotenbreg has a diverse work experience in the field of biology and immunology. Gijsbert is currently serving as the Vice President of Biology at HIBio since April 2022. Prior to this position, they held roles at Maze Therapeutics as the Senior Director of External Innovation from October 2020 to March 2022, and as the Senior Director of Immunology from December 2018 to September 2020. Gijsbert also worked at Gritstone Oncology as the Senior Director of Experimental Immunology from August 2016 to December 2018.

Before joining the industry, Grotenbreg had an academic background. Gijsbert worked as the Head of Diagnostics Discovery at 121 Bio from 2014 to July 2016. Gijsbert also held teaching and research positions at the National University of Singapore as an Honorary Assistant Professor in 2014 and as an Assistant Professor from 2008 to 2014. Gijsbert was a NRF Fellow at the National Research Foundation from 2008 to 2014.

In their early career, Grotenbreg gained extensive research experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Whitehead Institute from 2005 to 2008 and at Harvard Medical School from 2005 to 2006. Gijsbert also completed their graduate studies as a Graduate Student at Leiden University from September 2000 to February 2005 and their undergraduate studies as an Undergraduate Student at Universiteit Leiden from 1994 to 2000.

Gijsbert Grotenbreg pursued their education in Bio-organic Chemistry at Leiden University. From 1994 to 2000, they completed their Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree at Leiden University. Following this, they went on to earn their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Bio-organic Chemistry from Leiden University, which they accomplished between 2000 and 2005.
