Matt Schiavenza

Matt Schiavenza has diverse work experience in the fields of journalism and content management. Matt is currently serving as the Senior Director of Content and Managing Editor at HIAS, where they oversee online content and manages a team of content producers and a press officer. Prior to this role, Matt worked as an Independent Journalist, writing and editing stories for various publications such as The New Republic, The Daily Beast, and The Huffington Post. Matt also worked as a Senior Editor at Asia Society Magazine, commissioning and editing long-form reportage and writing feature stories on issues throughout Asia. Matt has previous experience as the Director of Content at Asia Society, where they wrote and edited a digital newsletter, oversaw podcast production, and pitched op-ed articles. Matt also served as a Senior Associate Editor and Contributing Writer at The Atlantic, overseeing and writing for The China Channel and writing articles on current events. Before their career in journalism, Matt worked as a Senior Analyst at China Intelligence Online, writing commercial intelligence reports. Matt also has experience as an ESL Teacher at Language Pacifica and WITT Beijing. Overall, Matt's work experience highlights their strong writing and editing skills, as well as their expertise in content management and journalism.

Matt Schiavenza completed their high school education at Menlo School from 1995 to 1999. Matt then pursued a Bachelor's degree in International Studies at UC San Diego from 1999 to 2004. In 2001 to 2002, they also studied Political Science at Università degli Studi di Padova. Later, from 2007 to 2008, they attended Kunming College of Eastern Language to study Chinese. Finally, they obtained a Master's degree in International Affairs from Columbia | SIPA in 2010 to 2012.
