Andrea Otáñez is a distinguished educator and journalist with extensive experience in academia and media. Currently serving as a Teaching Professor and Journalism and Public Interest Communication Program Coordinator at the University of Washington since 2013, Andrea has overseen curriculum and retention efforts while also being recognized as the 2017 Journalism Educator of the Year by the Society of Professional Journalists. Andrea's editorial roles include consulting editor at InvestigateWest and a board member at High Country News. Previous experience includes significant editorial positions at The Seattle Times, where Andrea served as Assistant Metro Editor, as well as teaching roles at Everett Community College. Andrea's educational background includes a Master’s degree in English/American Studies and a Bachelor's degree in Communication/Journalism and French from the University of Utah.
