Prashidha Kharel, PhD, has a diverse and extensive work experience in various roles. Starting in 2012, Prashidha worked as a Student Civil Engineer at Tribhuvan University, where they participated in a project funded by the German Development Corporation. The project focused on the design of river training works in Babai River within Gulariya Municipality.
In 2013, Prashidha joined GHEaSES International Pvt. Ltd. as a Researcher. They led research on event tree analysis for rockfall risk assessment along a 1 km stretch of highway in Nepal, as well as numerical modeling of houses built on slopes. Prashidha successfully completed two research projects, resulting in two international conference papers and developed an Applied Element Method based structural analysis program using Python.
Moving forward, Prashidha joined the Himalaya Conservation Group in 2014 as a Civil Engineer specialized in GIS Analysis. In this role, they performed GIS analysis, image processing of satellite data using computer vision techniques, and simulation of debris flow. Prashidha also conducted time-series analysis of rainfall and river flow data to create flood prediction models using machine learning techniques. They successfully led field visits for three projects and completed feasibility studies and designs for landslide and disaster mitigations.
In 2015, Prashidha became a PhD Researcher and Tutor at the University of Sydney in the Particles and Grains Laboratory. Their research work involved Discrete Element Simulation using C++, the development of new algorithms for extensive data analysis, the design and implementation of Monte Carlo simulation, and the introduction of new fundamental equations to describe dense granular flows. They also conducted tutoring sessions for six postgraduate courses, including geotechnical engineering and hazard analysis. Prashidha presented their research findings at five international conferences in four countries.
Prashidha continued to gain valuable experience in the field by working at Place Score in 2018 as a Researcher and Data Analyst. Their role involved conducting research and data analysis, with a focus on optimizing urban spaces. They worked in this role until 2020.
Most recently, in 2020, Prashidha joined HIVERY as an Optimization Engineer, where they utilize their expertise and knowledge to optimize various processes. The end date for this role is not provided, suggesting that Prashidha is currently still employed at HIVERY.
