Marlene Taylor has been employed in the communications field since 2004. Marlene began their career as a Technical Writer and Admin Assistant at Knoxville Utilites Board. In 2007, they became a Graduate Research Assistant at the Institute for a Secure and Sustainable Environment at the University of Tennessee. In 2009, they joined Hook PR Group as a Senior Content Creator, where they wrote copy for client websites, blogs, press releases, and printed materials. In 2011, they became the Coordinator for the Science Communication Initiative at the University of Tennessee, teaching workshops on social and digital media. In 2012, they began freelance writing for the Knoxville News Sentinel, writing about the environment and conservation. Since 2015, they have been employed by government contractor CSRA, writing and editing technical communications for Oak Ridge National Lab.

Marlene Taylor attended the University of Tennessee from 2007 to 2011 and earned a Master of Science (MS) in Communications and Information, Journalism and Electronic Media Concentration. Marlene had previously attended the same university from 1987 to 1992 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Natural History Interpretation.
