Alessandro Petrini

Alessandro Petrini has a diverse work experience spanning various fields. Alessandro is currently working as a Software Engineer at Horizen Labs since May 2022. Before joining Horizen Labs, Alessandro worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Università degli Studi di Milano from December 2020 to November 2021. During this time, they served as a Principal Investigator for the PRACE-awarded project "ParBigMen," focused on detecting pathogenic variants in Mendelian diseases. Additionally, they collaborated on a project related to compressed and learned indexes for multicriteria data structures and algorithms.

Prior to their postdoctoral research, Alessandro worked as a Doctoral Researcher at the same university from October 2017 to March 2021. Alessandro'sresearch focused on developing specialized hardware-accelerated machine learning methods for solving complex problems in bioinformatics and computational biology. Alessandro gained experience in software optimization and algorithm parallelization for heterogeneous systems.

Alessandro also served as an Assistant Research Fellow at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, where they collaborated with the Neuroradiology group from November 2018 to June 2020. During this time, they also worked as a Research Fellow and Visiting Research Fellow at the Berlin Institute of Health in der Charité from December 2019 to December 2019 and as an Assistant Research Fellow at Ospedale San Raffaele from September 2017 to August 2018.

In addition to their academic and research roles, Alessandro has previous experience as a freelance electronic and audio technician/designer/engineer from 2004 to 2014. Alessandro worked with national and international groups, artists, DJs, and recording studios, designing and servicing electronic musical instruments, audio amplifiers, and effects.

Alessandro has also worked as an accounting trainee at Studio Ferrara/Zorloni from June 2012 to September 2013 and as a technician and retail salesman at PcGarantito.it di Spinelli Simona from January 2011 to June 2012. Alessandro began their career as a retail sales clerk at Mondadori Retail S.p.A. from August 2004 to January 2011.

Alessandro Petrini's education history begins with obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics for Applications from the Università degli Studi di Milano, with an unspecified start year and completion in 2014. Following that, they pursued a Master's degree in Computer Science from the same university, which they completed from 2015 to 2017.
