Thomas M. has extensive work experience in the maritime industry, spanning over several decades. Thomas began their career in the professional yachting industry as a Captain / Chief Engineer in 1980 and worked in this role until 1990. Thomas then joined Maritrans GP Inc. as a Chief Engineer from 1990 to 1998. Following this, Thomas worked as a Chief Engineer at K Sea Transportation Corp from 1998 to 1999. Thomas then moved on to American Classic Voyages / Delta Queen Steamship Company as a Chief Engineer from 1999 to 2001. From 2001 to 2003, they worked at Clipper Cruise Lines as a Chief Engineer and Maintenance Coordinator. Thomas then joined Hess / HOSIL as a Chief Engineer in 2003, before transitioning to McAllister Towing, where they worked as a Chief Engineer from 2003 to 2008. Thomas then joined United Ocean Services as a Chief Engineer and NS5 Coordinator from 2008 to 2010. In 2012, Thomas joined Hornbeck Offshore as the Chief Engineer and 1st A/E and has continued in that role till the present. In 2014, Thomas started working at Seabulk Tankers, Inc. as a Chief Engineer and NS5 Coordinator, a role they held until 2016.

Thomas M. completed their high school education at Stranahan High School from 1973 to 1977, earning a diploma with a focus on Engines. In terms of additional certifications, they obtained the following:

- Safe Gulf, T Huet, INS, Rigging from Faulk in November 2019

- High Voltage Training from Star Center in July 2010

- HVAC Universal Tech Certified from the State University of New York Maritime College in June 1995

Thomas also obtained certifications in various engine types such as Alfa Laval Purifiers, Cummings engines, Detroit Diesel engines, EMD 645 Engines, EMD 710 Series Engines, MAK Engines 32C, MTU Engines, Mirlees Engines, and Northern Light Generators, although the institutions and dates of these certifications are not provided. Additionally, they obtained a certification as an Electronics Technician Officer from the United States Coast Guard, and in KaMeWa Jet Drive Propulsion from Kamewa Sweden.
