Joel Eaton, PhD, has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries.
Starting in 2007, Joel worked as a Technical Manager at Brighton Electric Recording Co. Ltd. In 2008, they became a Technical Advisor at the Institute for Learning and Research Technology at the University of Bristol, where they provided consultancy and training on digital media and research.
In 2012, Joel took on the role of Course Leader for BA (Hons) Creative Music Production at City College Brighton and Hove. Joel led a team of academic and support staff, delivered lectures, and provided pastoral care for students.
From 2014 to 2015, Joel worked as a Consultant & Technical Advisor at Jisc, offering consultancy and training in the UK higher education and cultural heritage sectors. Joel published best practices and guidance for digital learning, technology, and research.
Joel joined Plymouth University in 2011 as a PhD Student, conducting research in Brain-Computer Interfacing and developing creative technologies for users with physical disabilities. During this time, they also served as a Research Assistant and HCI Engineer.
Joining Arm in 2015, Joel initially worked as an Information Developer and then as an Instructional Designer. Joel led the instructional design service for training content and was involved in the development of various digital learning experiences.
In 2019, Joel became the Manager of Training Services at Unity Technologies, where they led the global training strategy and team, resulting in a significant increase in revenue. Joel also managed the development of instructional design products.
Joel then moved on to Amazon in 2021, first as a Manager and then as a Senior Manager in Learning Experience. Joel developed and delivered learning strategies, oversaw digital learning infrastructure, and led a team of Learning Experience Designers and Program Managers. Joel successfully launched multiple digital learning programs and developed learning best practices and standards.
Currently, Joel is the Head of Product - E-Learning at Hornbill, starting in 2022.
Joel Eaton, PhD, has an extensive education history in the field of technology and music. Joel completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Brain-Computer Interfacing from the University of Plymouth, where they studied from 2011 to 2015. Before that, they pursued a Master's degree in Computer Music at the same institution, graduating in 2011. Prior to their Master's degree, Joel attended the University of the West of England from 2003 to 2006, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Music Systems Engineering.
In addition to their academic achievements, Joel has also obtained certifications to enhance their professional skills. Joel completed the "Hornbill Ready" certification at Hornbill in June 2023 and also acquired expertise in "Pitching Hornbill - Mastering sales conversations for digital experience and process efficiency" from the same institution in May 2023. These certifications showcase their commitment to staying updated and continuously improving their knowledge and abilities in their chosen field.
