Alastair Gillespie

Alastair joined Horwich Farrelly in 2021 to lead their new abuse team. Alastair is one of the most eminent lawyers in his field, having handled cases involving abuse and neglect for nearly 30 years. He was lead defendant lawyer in both the North West and North Wales group actions and has conducted numerous precedent-setting Court of Appeal cases. He acted for Barclays Bank and insurers in their successful Supreme Court appeal in 2020, a landmark decision on vicarious liability. He advises in cases involving allegations of abuse, neglect, failure to remove, harassment and discrimination. He also advises on policy interpretation, reputation management and control of claim portfolios. He gave evidence to IICSA as an expert witness on several occasions and is a member of the FOIL abuse sector focus team.
