POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Construction General Manager is pivotal in leading the Horwitz mechanical construction operations to achieve enhanced profitability, stringent safety standards, and exceptional project quality. This role demands proactive financial oversight of construction projects, a commitment to safety and excellence, and the development of project managers and project engineers through effective coaching and leadership.

RESPONSIBLITIES/DUTIES:

  • Financial Oversight: Directly oversee the financial performance of all construction projects, ensuring they meet or exceed budgetary expectations. Regularly review project financial reports, oversee work in progress (WIP) reporting, and maintain monthly forecasting accuracy. Hold project managers accountable for their financial management of projects.

  • Safety and Quality Management: Champion a safety-first culture by participating in safety committees and leading in safety. Oversee quality control and commissioning to maintain the highest standards across all projects.

  • Team Leadership and Staff Development: Conduct regular one-on-one and group meetings with project managers and project engineers, promoting and maintaining a positive work culture. Foster an environment of continuous learning and improvement, enhancing team capabilities through regular coaching sessions and targeted training.

  • Problem Solving and Operational Excellence: Address and resolve complex operational issues as they arise, bringing innovative solutions to ensure project success. Promote synergy across departments to enhance overall operational efficiency.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the construction division in critical internal and external meetings to align divisional goals with corporate strategy. Maintain strong relationships with union representatives as well as industry partners and manage jobsite conflicts effectively. Collaboration with Project Management professionals to ensure the necessary resources are available when needed.

  • Business Growth: Vision and foresight to continue to grow the division through innovation and technological advancements in an ever-changing industry to optimize performance. Assists with development and execution of the business plans, budgets, scorecards, and divisional performance reviews to ensure that financial, and non-financial, goals are met.

  • Recruitment & Hiring: lead in identifying, recruiting, retaining and developing people for all positions needed to sustain and enhance the division.

  • Project Planning: Work closely with the pre-construction team to review upcoming project proposals and provide valuable feedback regarding past project performance. Promote the development and use of prefabrication in project delivery.

SKILLS/ABILITES:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in mechanical construction, with a proven track record in project management and team leadership.
  • Strong financial acumen, with extensive experience managing project budgets and forecasts.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, capable of leading and motivating diverse teams.
  • Resilient and adaptable, able to manage high-stress situations and deliver positive outcomes.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.

  • At least 10 years of experience in mechanical construction, with a proven track record in project management and team leadership.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position is contingent upon passing a background check.
  • Subject to initial 3-month and 6-month performance reviews.
