Phillip Medlin has extensive work experience as a legal professional. Phillip began their career as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Dana M. Sabraw at the United States District Court, Southern District of California in 2012, where they reviewed moving papers and drafted tentative rulings. Phillip then worked as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Ronald Prager at the Superior Court of California, San Diego County, where they reviewed moving papers, drafted tentative rulings, and discussed litigation strategies with the judge.

In 2013, Phillip joined the Law Offices of Dale Dixon as an Associate Attorney, specializing in employment law and civil litigation. Their role involved representing clients in trial courts, appellate courts, and arbitration forums, drafting pleadings and motions, engaging in civil discovery, participating in mediation and settlement conferences, and advising employer clients on employment law compliance. Phillip also served as a Law Clerk at the same firm, gaining experience in legal research and drafting.

Most recently, Phillip Medlin worked at Hot Topic as Vice President & General Counsel, starting in April 2022. Prior to this, they held the role of Associate General Counsel at the company from January 2017 to April 2022. In this position, they handled a wide range of legal issues, including litigation, employment law, data privacy and security, contract drafting and negotiations, product safety and regulatory compliance, intellectual property, marketing, social media, entertainment, and ADA accommodations.

Phillip Medlin attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2005 to 2009, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Economics. Following this, they attended the University of San Diego from 2010 to 2013, where they earned a Juris Doctor degree. Phillip has also obtained a certification called "The Certified Information Privacy Professional - United States (CIPP/US)" from the IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals in February 2020.
