Joseph L. Goldstein

Trustee at Howard Hughes Medical Institute

Joseph L. Goldstein, a noted scientist who shared the 1985 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine for discoveries related to cholesterol metabolism, is chairman of the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

Joseph Goldstein has been associated with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute since 1978, when he became a member of the Institute's first Scientific Review Board. In 1984, he was appointed to the Medical Advisory Board, serving as chairman from 1995 to 2002.

Goldstein was elected a trustee of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in 2002.
