Michele Avissar-Whiting

Program Officer, Open Science Strategy at Howard Hughes Medical Institute

Michele Avissar-Whiting currently serves as the Director and Program Officer for Open Science Strategy at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute since August 2022. Prior to this role, Michele held various positions at Research Square from November 2011 to August 2022, including Editor In Chief and Operations Director for R&D, focusing on enhancing the quality of academic figures and illustrations for researchers. Michele's earlier experience includes a position as Managing Editor at Brown University and a Postdoctoral Research Associate role, where analyses of genetic and epigenetic factors in renal cell carcinoma were performed. Michele also worked at Amgen as a QC/QA Microbiologist, gaining expertise in Good Manufacturing Practices. Michele obtained a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences from Brown University and a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences from the University of Rhode Island.
