Jean Freedberg

Director, Global Partnerships at Human Rights Campaign

Jean Freedberg is the Director of Global Partnerships at the Human Rights Campaign, where for the past five years she has worked to support and strengthen the global movement for equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) people. Throughout her career, Jean has worked with public interest advocates worldwide to create innovative and effective communications and campaign strategies in the areas of international human rights, mass atrocities, antisemitism, LGBTIQ rights, women’s rights, and democratic systems.

Before joining HRC, Jean served at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, first as communications director, then as public engagement director in the Museum’s Center for the Prevention of Genocide. She worked at the National Democratic Institute (NDI) as public affairs director in Washington DC, and as country director in Guyana, focusing on women's participation and constitutional reform. Jean’s involvement with Amnesty International USA has included serving as communications director, vice-chair of the board of directors, and a member of the OutFront steering committee, helping guide the organization’s work on LGBTQ issues.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Jean has a B.A.(Hons) from the University of Cape Town and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley.
