Haya Akbik

Haya Akbik is currently a Legal Intern at Human Rights First since May 2025. Previously, Haya held dual roles at the Center for American Progress from January 2022 to March 2025, serving as both Executive Affairs Coordinator and Executive Assistant to the President and CEO. Experience also includes serving as Project Coordinator for the Syrian American Council from April 2021 to January 2022 and working as an Operations Associate for Jon Ossoff's U.S. Senate campaign in late 2020. Haya has held various political positions, including Political Assistant for Peters for Michigan and Financial Intern for the same organization earlier. Additional experience includes legislative internship at the United States Senate and leadership roles within the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Haya's academic background includes a Doctor of Law (JD) from American University Washington College of Law, a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan, and ongoing studies at Sciences Po.
