Fisheries / Blue Economy Specialist at IGAD

Sweenarain Soobaschand is an accomplished Fisheries Economist with extensive experience in various roles within the fisheries and blue economy sectors. Currently serving as a Fisheries Economist, Team Leader, and Technical Coordinator for the INCATEMA CONSORTIUM under the EU ECOFISH PROGRAMME since July 2019, Sweenarain also holds the position of Fisheries/Blue Economy Specialist at IGAD and collaborates with the World Bank's SWIOFish 1 Programme as a Tuna Industry Economist. With a background in natural resources economics spanning over two decades, Sweenarain has contributed to multiple initiatives including sustainable fisheries management, policy consulting, and blue economy conferences. Educational qualifications include a PhD and MSc in Economics from Pacific Western University, along with a Diploma in Fisheries Economics and Trade. Sweenarain's expertise encompasses project management, community-based biodiversity planning, and the integration of ecological knowledge into decision-making processes.
