Thamala Perera Schuetze is the current General Counsel at IGas Energy. Prior to this, they served as the General Counsel at Star Energy Group Limited from April 2008 to December 2011.
A member of the Management Team, they were responsible for advising the parent company in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on projects undertaken in Europe. Her geographical remit included the UK, Netherlands, Ireland and Denmark.
Thamala was hired to set up, implement and lead the PETRONAS Infrastructure Group legal function in Europe from a standing start. This entailed advising the Board of Directors and senior management of the Company on a wide variety of legal matters covering commercial transactions, M&A, corporate and litigation.
Thamala was instrumental in the expansion and development of the business across Europe and northern Europe. In particular, they led the successful outcome in the landmark case of Bocardo SA v Star Energy (High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court) which impacted the entire UK onshore oil and gas industry (including unconventional (shale) gas).
Thamala Perera Schuetze attended King's College London, where they obtained an LLM in European Law. Thamala then completed a Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law. Afterwards, they obtained an LLB (Hons.) in Business Law from London Guildhall University. Finally, they completed a course in Corporate Governance: Managing the Board of Directors at the London Business School.
Their manager is Stephen Bowler, CEO. Thamala Perera Schuetze works with Peter Foscoe - Director of Human Resources, Ann-Marie Wilkinson - Director of Corporate Affairs, and Ross Glover - Development Director.
