Michael Ramirez

Michael Ramirez, PMP has over 17 years of work experience in various roles. Michael is currently serving as the Director of Project Management at Illustrative Mathematics, where they lead and manages a team of project managers to execute cross-departmental projects. Prior to this, they worked as a Project Manager and Interim Director, PL Implementation and Talent at the same company. In these roles, they were responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of projects, managing event logistics, and advocating for the team's needs.

Before joining Illustrative Mathematics, Michael worked at Versabar, Inc. as a Testing Project Manager, where they prepared proposals and cost estimates, developed project scopes and schedules, and built relationships with customers. Michael also worked as a Testing Project Engineer at the same company, where they conducted tests, engineered and designed components, and reviewed manufacturing drawings.

Michael's earlier work experience includes serving as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at The University of Texas-Pan American, where they contributed to the development and design of a nanofiber production technology. Michael also worked as a Supervisory Design Engineer Intern at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where they led projects addressing efficiency and presented recommendations for upgrades.

Additionally, Michael has teaching experience as a 2nd Grade Teacher/Literacy Interventionist at McAllen ISD. In this role, they instructed students, prepared lesson plans, administered evaluations, and mentored students in small groups.

Michael Ramirez, PMP, obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas-Pan American, which they completed between 2006 and 2008. Prior to that, they also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Early Childhood Education from the same university, which they completed between 2001 and 2003. Additionally, Ramirez attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1997 to 2000 to study Mechanical Engineering, although they did not complete a degree at that institution. In terms of certifications, Ramirez obtained a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute in February 2018.
