Josh Barkby

Josh Barkby has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Josh started their career in 2011 as a Commis Chef at Old Manor Fish Bar, where they prepared meals under high time pressure and handled stock checking and equipment maintenance. In 2016, they worked as a Greenkeeper Summer Casual at The Belfry Hotel & Resort, where they maintained grounds and completed training for the safe operation of equipment.

In 2017, Josh worked as a Medical Laboratory Assistant at Spire Healthcare Group plc, where they sorted and sent blood test results, completed audits, and managed labelling and archiving tasks. The same year, they began their journey in physics at Nottingham Trent University as a Student Ambassador for the School of Science and Technology, welcoming guests at open days and leading tours of the physics department and research laboratories. Josh also worked as a Research Assistant, where they developed and fabricated thin films of metals, laser annealed them, and characterized them optically and structurally. Additionally, they worked as an Undergraduate Researcher, depositing ultra-thin films and laser processing them to fabricate nanoparticles for anti-counterfeit applications.

In 2018, Josh served as a Campus Ambassador for the Institute of Physics, promoting membership, careers, and volunteering events, and conducting market research. From 2019 onwards, they continued their physics journey at Nottingham Trent University as a Postgraduate Researcher, focusing on developing a gas-immersion laser doping technique for silicon. Josh also worked as an Hourly Paid Lecturer, teaching third-year undergraduate physics modules and guiding students in research paper writing and collaborative work with students from a Parisian university.

In 2023, Josh joined Infinitesima Limited as a Systems Engineer.
