Senior Optical Engineer at Infleqtion

Adam Friss has an extensive work experience in the field of optical engineering and plasma science. Adam currently holds the position of Senior Optical Engineer at Infleqtion since April 2023. Prior to this role, they worked as an Optical Engineer at the same company from April 2022 to March 2023.

Before joining Infleqtion, Adam worked as a National Research Council Postdoctoral Research Associate at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) from September 2020 to March 2022. In this role, they were responsible for various projects including the development and optimization of analytical methods for breath characterization, redesign of sampling instruments, and development of a laboratory information management system (LIMS).

Adam also served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Colorado Boulder from August 2019 to September 2020, where they continued their work on projects at NIST related to breath characterization, instrument redesign, and LIMS development.

In the earlier years of their career, Adam worked at Colorado State University as a Graduate Research Assistant and NASA Space Technology Research Fellow from 2012 to July 2019. Adam'swork involved the development of the Cavity Enhanced Thomson Scattering (CETS) diagnostic technique and the management of student teams for various programs.

Adam also gained experience as a Visiting Technologist at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory from July 2015 to December 2018. Adam worked on projects related to electron property measurements, instrument redesign, and circuit design.

Additionally, Adam was a DOE Plasma Science Center Visiting Researcher at Sandia National Laboratories in June 2014, where they developed a pulsed plasma source and performed microwave-based measurements.

Adam Friss earned their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University, where they studied from 2006 to 2012. Adam then pursued further education and obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution, completing their studies from 2012 to 2019.
