Shawn Gage

Shawn Gage is Founder, and Director of Clinical Operations at InnAVasc Medical, where he is responsible for various aspects of clinical operations, clinical trial development, pre-clinical testing, and the oversight of medical affairs. He completed his initial medical training at Butler University in Indianapolis, IN, followed by a 2-year residency in General Surgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. Shawn was Senior Vascular PA and functioned as a junior vascular surgeon for 14 years within the Division of Vascular Surgery at Duke University, specializing in complex hemodialysis access. At Duke he was active in education and held academic appointments as Director and Associate Director of the PA Surgical Residency Program and continues to function as Adjunct Instructor for the Duke University PA Program.

Shawn was on the initial PA Section Steering Committee for the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) and has held board positions for the Association of PAs in Cardiac, Vascular and Thoracic surgery (APACVS) and is currently a sitting member for the Vascular Access Society of the Americas (VASA) BOD. Shawn was instrumental in the early clinical program at Humacyte, Inc., a human tissue engineering company that is developing bioengineered blood vessel replacement options with regenerative properties, where he participated in the pre-clinical program and then went on to develop and execute several clinical studies for AV access, peripheral bypass and traumatic vascular repair.

Shawn began development of the InnAVasc Graft at Duke in 2011 prompted by recurring challenges identified in his patients with hemodialysis needle-related injuries and complications. Since then, he has continued to lead the clinical development of the InnAVasc technology from bench and now to the bedside in the current clinical study.
