Innocence Project
Shawn Armbrust serves as the Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project (MAIP) since July 2005, focusing on preventing and correcting wrongful convictions across the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Prior to this role, Shawn was a law clerk for Hon. Gladys Kessler at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia from 2004 to 2005 and completed a law clerk position at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia in 2002. Earlier experience includes serving as a case coordinator at the Center on Wrongful Convictions from 1999 to 2001. Shawn's educational background includes a Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center (2004) and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University (1999).

The Innocence Project is a non-profit legal clinic affiliated with the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University and created by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld in 1992. The project is a national litigation and public policy organization dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted people through DNA testing and reforming the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice.
