Poornima Whomsley

Poornima Whomsley has a diverse work experience in the pharmaceutical industry spanning several companies and roles.

Poornima is currently working as the Head of European Medical Operations at Insmed Incorporated, a position they started in September 2023.

Prior to that, they worked as an Organisational Capabilities Consultant for various companies from September 2022 to August 2023.

From 2019 to 2022, they held multiple roles at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, including Director/Head of Global Medical Excellence and Field Effectiveness, Director Medical Operations & Effectiveness CEMEA, and Medical Operations Lead in the CEMEA Region.

Before joining Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, they were a Global Medical Capabilities Consultant at Eli Lilly and Company from 2018 to 2019. Poornima also served as the National MSL Lead/Medical Affairs Manager, Medical Launch Readiness PM Consultant for Europe and Canada, UK Medical Operations Lead/N European Hub PM Consultant, and Group Lead for European Scientific Communications during their tenure at Eli Lilly and Company from 2012 to 2018.

Poornima has also worked as a Continuing Professional Development Reviewer at the General Pharmaceutical Council from 2009 to 2012 and as a Pharmaceutical Consultant from 2009 to 2012.

Prior to that, they held various roles at UCB, including Head of Global Medical Knowledge Management, Head of Global Medical Documentation, and Global Medical Editing Manager from 2005 to 2009.

Poornima began their career as a Science Editor for the European Journal of Hospital Pharmacy at the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists from 2004 to 2005.

Poornima also served as the Course Director for the MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance at the University of Leeds from 1994 to 1998.

Poornima Whomsley completed their education in the field of pharmacy and medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry. Poornima obtained their Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) degree from UCL between 1984 and 1987. Subsequently, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd from 1988 to 1993. In addition to their formal education, they also hold several certifications. Poornima obtained a UK Pharmacist certification from the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) in August 1988. Later, in September 2017, they received the ABPI Final Medical Signatory certification from the MHRA. More recently, in June 2018, they obtained a Certificate in Criterion Referenced Instruction from the Mager Consortium.
