Scientist, Process Sciences at Instil Bio

Holly Crookes has a diverse work experience in the field of biomedical research and development. Holly started their career as a Science Journalist at Sphinx Student Newspaper in 2016.

In 2017, Holly joined the University of Liverpool and worked as a Clinical Trial Administrator at the Liverpool Cancer Trials Unit. Under the supervision of Paula Ghaneh, they analyzed data from a pancreatic cancer trial and synthesized complex trial findings to identify effective treatments for resectable pancreatic cancer. Holly also gained skills in evidence-based healthcare and handling complex trial data during this role. In the same university, Holly worked under Dr. Michael Schmid in the Schmid Lab as part of their research and development activities. Here, they focused on studying the role of immune cells in pancreatic cancer progression and metastasis. Throughout this role, they acquired various technical skills such as cell and tissue culture, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and more.

In 2018, Holly completed an internship at the Center for Cellular Immunotherapies organized by Dr. Bruce Levine at Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System. During this placement, they gained insights into CAR T Cell Therapy for acute leukemia and lymphoma, as well as the clinical progression in other cancer types.

In 2019, Holly joined Instil Bio as a GMP Process Development Technician and was later promoted to the role of GMP Process Development Research Associate. Their responsibilities in this company involved working on GMP process development for cell therapies. From January 2021, Holly became a Scientist in the Process Sciences department at Instil Bio, where they continue to contribute their expertise in cell therapy development.

Holly Crookes completed their education at various institutions. Holly pursued their Bachelor's degree in Biological and Medical Sciences from the University of Liverpool from 2014 to 2017. Following this, they enrolled in the University of Liverpool again, where they obtained a Master's degree in Research with a specialization in the Biology of Cancer from 2017 to 2018. Before attending university, Holly completed their A Levels at Cardinal Newman College Preston from 2012 to 2014. Their A Levels included Biology, Chemistry, Modern History, and Mathematics, including Statistics at the AS Level. Prior to college, they attended All Hallows RC High School from 2007 to 2012, where they completed their high school education and achieved 12 GCSEs, including Mathematics, English, and Triple Award Science.
