Joan Groizard Payeras serves as the Director-General of IDAE, the Energy Agency of the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition, since November 2018, focusing on low-carbon energy initiatives and leading efforts for Spain's post-COVID recovery in energy transition. Previous roles include Director of Renewable Energy and Electricity Markets, where policy advice was provided on various aspects of Spain's 2021-2030 Integrated Energy and Climate Plan. As Vice-Chair of the Sustainable Energy Committee at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and a member of the Governing Board of the Instituto para la Transición Justa, significant contributions to energy and climate policy were made. Experience also includes directorial responsibilities at the Govern de les Illes Balears, consultancy at Element Energy, and various engineering roles at RES and National Grid. Academic credentials include a Master of Engineering and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cambridge, along with a Master’s in Corporate Social Responsibility from Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
