Maria Amelia Viteri is a seasoned professional in social and gender studies, currently serving as a Senior Social and Gender Specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank since February 2021. Viteri has concurrently worked as a facilitator for Wayfinding Partners, and as a research collaborator on a Ford Foundation project at the University of California, Santa Cruz, focusing on the socioeconomic impact of China's involvement in Latin America. Viteri also engages in gender and politics research in Latin America with Sexuality Policy Watch, and holds research roles at the University of Maryland and Florida Atlantic University. Prior experience includes founding UNIDiversidad and serving as a project coordinator for the U.S. Department of State, producing valuable assessments of LGBT refugee conditions in Ecuador. Viteri holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from American University and has extensive experience in developing gender-focused curricula and advocacy initiatives.
