Maria Teresa Villanueva has extensive experience in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Since July 1999, Maria Teresa has worked at the Inter-American Development Bank, currently serving as Principal Operations Specialist in the Social Department, where leadership is provided for public-private partnerships aimed at enhancing women's agency and employment. In 2016, Maria Teresa initiated a strategic partnership with the World Economic Forum to establish Gender Parity Taskforces in seven Latin American countries. Prior roles include leading the Gender and Diversity Division and positions within the Multilateral Investment Fund. Educational qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Development Management from American University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Economics from Universidad Francisco Marroquín.
