Vanessa Alviarez

Vanessa Alviarez is a distinguished economist with significant experience in both academia and international finance. Currently serving as Lead Economist at the Inter-American Development Bank since May 2020, Vanessa previously held the position of Senior Economist within the same institution. From 2014 to June 2023, Vanessa was an Assistant Professor at UBC Sauder School of Business. Earlier experience includes a role as Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Michigan from 2012 to 2014 and as a Dissertation Intern at the Federal Reserve Board's Division of International Finance in the summer of 2013. Earlier in her career, Vanessa worked as a Research Fellow at the Inter-American Development Bank and as a Research Consultant at CAF - banco de desarrollo de América Latina. Vanessa completed a PhD in Economics and a Master of Arts in Economics at the University of Michigan, following a bachelor's degree in Economics from Universidad Central de Venezuela.
