Sunil Varghese

Sunil Varghese currently serves as the Policy Director at the International Refugee Assistance Project, a position held since April 2020. In addition, Sunil Varghese is a Board Member of Resettlement Action DC, a role undertaken from April 2022 to December 2023. Prior experience includes serving as Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary from August 2018 to April 2020, and holding various positions at USCIS from April 2011 to August 2018, including Special Assistant in the Asylum Division, Deputy Director of the Newark Asylum Office, and Asylum Officer/Supervisory Asylum Officer. Sunil Varghese began as an Asylum Attorney at the Human Rights Initiative of North Texas Inc. from June 2009 to April 2011 and practiced as an Associate at Kelley Drye & Warren LLP from September 2007 to June 2009. Academic qualifications include a JD with a Certificate in Refugees & Humanitarian Emergencies from Georgetown University Law Center, a BA in Government from The University of Texas at Austin, and a BBA in Management Information Systems from Texas McCombs School of Business.
