About This Position

Reporting to the Senior Manager, the role will support our company's data center operations by assisting with key aspects of strategy, including site selection, development, and contract management. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of the data center industry and a strong interest in strategic planning and operations. This position will work closely with the Senior Manager, as well as other members of the data center team and cross-functional departments within the company.

Overview of the Department

The Strategy and Business Development team is responsible for defining, enabling, and executing on the commercial and technical strategy of Intersect’s product offerings. This includes but is not limited to, enabling opportunities across energy storage, data centers, green hydrogen, green fuels (ammonia, methanol, SAF), and other emerging technologies or business models that create a pathway between clean electricity and the broader economy.  

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist in developing and refining strategies for data center growth, including market analysis, competitive landscape assessment, and identification of potential opportunities for expansion.
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of potential data center sites. Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to assess site suitability, considering factors such as location, infrastructure, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the negotiation and management of contracts related to data center development, including leases, service agreements, and vendor contracts. Ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and finance, to ensure alignment and successful execution of data center projects. Track project milestones and deliverables to ensure timely completion.
  • Conduct in-depth research on industry trends, customer needs, and competitive dynamics to inform business development strategies. Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Support the creation of financial models to evaluate the feasibility of data center projects. Analyze financial performance metrics and provide insights to improve profitability and efficiency.
  • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation for internal stakeholders, summarizing project progress, market insights, and strategic recommendations.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in the Data Center or related industry, with a focus on strategy, siting, or contracting.
  • Preferred experience 5 years data center or mission critical experience
  • Strong understanding of the technical aspects of data center operations and infrastructure.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree or MBA is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing business needs.

  • Mostly sedentary work; using standard office equipment including: a computer, keyboard, and telephone.
  • Position is part of a remote team, with regular electronic and video communication
  • Position requires some travel for company-wide meetups: ~4 weeks total through a calendar year.

  • Salary: USD$125,000 or CAD$169,300 base salary with 20% annual target bonus
