Technical Program Manager, Product And Engineering Operations

Engineering · Mountain View, United States

Job description

Intrinsic is Alphabet’s bet aiming to reimagine the potential of industrial robotics. Our team believes that advances in AI, perception and simulation will redefine what’s possible for industrial robotics in the near future – with software and data at the core.

Our mission is to make industrial robotics intelligent, accessible, and usable for millions more businesses, entrepreneurs, and developers. We are a dynamic team of engineers, roboticists, designers, and technologists who are passionate about unlocking the creative and economic potential of industrial robotics.

Role

As a Technical Program Manager (TPM) for Product and Engineering Operations, you’ll optimize Intrinsic’s execution health by owning simple, yet effective operational practices and processes from collaborative definition to successful adoption. You will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with amazing and talented people across all of Intrinsic’s functions.

You will play a key role in evolving Intrinsic’s Product and Engineering operations to effectively enable trade-offs between several dimensions of execution health (e.g. agility, output, sustainability, …). To achieve that you will collaborate closely with leaders in Product and Engineering, but also your counterparts in Commercial Operations. You will hold the tension between giving individual functions the space to maximize their autonomy while ensuring alignment with how Intrinsic effectively and efficiently operates overall.

Within Product and Engineering you will continuously evolve practices and processes to match Intrinsic’s needs, from quarterly execution planning to ad hoc reprioritization. All while driving adoption of our operations through simplicity and effectiveness.

You will collaborate closely with the Commercial Operations team to ensure that practices and processes go hand in hand from first customer contact to continuous product support.

As part of the overall TPM team, you will also collaborate closely with your peers to evolve TPM practices and processes, enabling successful deliveries to our customers and partners at scale.

How your work moves the mission forward

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define and evolve simple yet effective Product and Engineering processes and practices (e.g. quarterly roadmap planning, feature lifecycle)
  • Facilitate alignment between functions to maximize their autonomy while ensuring the sum of practices and processes optimize Intrinsic’s needs overall
  • Motivate by creating clarity. For example, manage change by creating clarity on: Why is a change needed? How did we decide on the change? What is changing?
  • Own an up-to-date execution health overview and manage related risks, e.g. resource allocations
  • Guide the team to follow Intrinsic’s established practices and processes - collect feedback to evolve our operations to successfully deliver at scale
  • Represent your function in regular leadership updates and proactively raise flags where leadership guidance is needed

Skills you will need to be successful

  • Strength in identifying risks and balancing trade-offs in a wide range of practices and processes
  • Experience in establishing and applying agile product and engineering development and management methodology (Scrum, Kanban, etc) and comfortable adapting and leveraging these in ambiguous settings with shifting priorities
  • Strength in facilitating alignment of competing needs and constraints by leveraging critical thinking, e.g. keeping right level of Operations when delivering novel products on ambitious timelines
  • Experienced in managing Product and Engineering Operations from start to end (incl. collaborative definition, change/adoption management, stakeholder management)
  • Concise and clear communicator, especially when documenting and introducing new practices and processes
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent industry experience.

Skills that will differentiate your candidacy

  • Experience in evolving a wide range of practices and processes for Product and Engineering teams from start-ups to established corporations
  • Experience in establishing agile processes at scale (e.g. using SAFe, Less, DAD, etc)
  • Experience in working at the intersection of Commercial and Product/Engineering Operations
  • Experience in software engineering, robotics, and/or automation
  • Exceptionally organized and self-driven, with a strong sense of ownership

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $142,400 - $218,500 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter will share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
