Melanie Hiles has a diverse work experience that spans various industries and roles. Melanie currently works as a Systems Operations Engineer at IonQ, starting in September 2021. Prior to that, they were a Research Associate at the University of Guelph from September 2020 to December 2020, where they conducted research on crosslinked polyethylene pipe using machine learning techniques.

Melanie also had an extensive tenure at the University of Guelph, starting in September 2017. During this time, they served as a Teaching Assistant for multiple first-year science and engineering courses, delivering lectures, leading labs, and providing one-on-one support to students. Additionally, they worked as a Research Assistant on an industry-partnered project involving crosslinked polyethylene pipes, where they utilized various spectroscopy and analysis techniques to measure their properties and identify measurable differences.

In 2018, they pursued a Certificate in Data Science at the University of Guelph, completing it in 2019. Continuing at the University of Guelph, they then pursued a Master's degree in Physics, which they completed in 2020.
