Oliver Knitter

Oliver Knitter, PhD, currently serves as a Senior Scientist in Quantum AI at IonQ since June 2025. Prior to this role, Oliver was a Quantum Computing Postdoctoral Fellow at SandboxAQ, focusing on developing quantum algorithms for quantum chemistry applications and collaborating on experimental ML pipelines for drug discovery. Oliver also completed a PhD in Applied and Interdisciplinary Mathematics and Scientific Computing at the University of Michigan, where research centered on neural quantum states and their applications in computational quantum chemistry. Additional experience includes a Machine Learning Research Internship at Signify, teaching assistant roles, and serving as a Graduate Student Instructor and research assistant during the academic career at the University of Michigan and San Francisco State University. Oliver holds multiple degrees in mathematics and has received training from a range of prestigious institutions.
