Omar Shakir has a diverse work experience, starting in 2012 as an Internal Medicine Intern at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Omar then went on to serve as a Resident Physician at the University of Florida College of Medicine from 2013 to 2016. Following this, they joined Yale University School of Medicine, where they held the positions of VitreoRetinal Surgery Fellow from 2016 to 2018 and Clinical Instructor from 2018 onwards.

In 2018, Omar founded Coastal Eye Surgeons and also worked as a Consultant at AlphaSights. Omar continued their consulting roles at various medical technology companies such as Bausch + Lomb Surgical, ZEISS Medical Technology, BEYEONICS, and Topcon Healthcare starting from 2022.

Furthermore, they served as a Consultant at iOR Partners from 2021, demonstrating their expertise and versatility in the healthcare industry. Overall, Omar Shakir's work experience encompasses a blend of medical practice, teaching, and consultancy in the field of ophthalmology.

Omar Shakir's education history begins in 2004 when they attended Union College, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree. During their time at Union College, their field of study focused on Political Science and Government, as well as Biology. In 2008, they enrolled at Clarkson University Graduate School and completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a specialization in Health/Health Care Administration/Management in 2009.

In the same year, 2008, they also started attending Albany Medical College, where they pursued their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, which they completed in 2012.

After completing their medical degree, they joined the Yale University School of Medicine in 2016 for a VitreoRetinal Surgery Fellowship, which concluded in 2018.

In addition to their educational accomplishments, Omar Shakir also holds a certification as a Board Certified member from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Omar obtained this certification in July 2018.
