Derek Mead

Derek Mead has a diverse work experience in the railroad industry. Derek started their career at Canadian Pacific in 2005, where they held positions as a Conductor/Engineer and later as an Assistant Trainmaster. In their role as Assistant Trainmaster, they were responsible for overseeing daily operations and ensuring compliance with company and federal requirements. In 2014, they became the Road Foreman/Designated Supervisor of Locomotive Engineers, where they managed train movement operations and ensured regulatory compliance.

In 2015, Derek joined Iowa Interstate Railroad, initially as an Assistant Superintendent. In this role, they focused on optimizing employee development, establishing career development plans, and managing a strong team. Derek also ensured optimal results in performance and financial metrics and implemented safety plans. Derek then moved up to the position of Trainmaster, where they were accountable for safe and efficient train operations, while also managing inventory for terminals and the line of road.

Most recently, Derek served as the Director of Rules and Field Safety at Iowa Interstate Railroad. In this role, they oversaw safety plan processes, optimized cost control, and delivered solid results based on consistent execution.
