Sharon Torgerson

Sharon Torgerson has a strong background in strategic leadership and human resources. Sharon started their career as a Learning and Development Specialist at Agrium in 2000. From there, they moved to Suncor Energy, where they held various roles including Director of Workplace Learning and Director of Leader and Employee Development. At Suncor Energy, they were responsible for creating strategic people planning processes and implementing learning solutions. In 2012, they became the Director of People and Organizational Development at Health Shared Services BC before starting their own consulting company, Torgerson and Associates. Sharon then moved on to BC Clinical and Support Services, where they served as the Vice President of Corporate Performance and led strategic activities to implement the organization's business model. Currently, Sharon is the VP of People at Island Health, where they provide strategic leadership for Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety, Staff Scheduling, and more, to achieve excellence in health and care.

Sharon Torgerson has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Victoria, which they obtained from 1987 to 1989. Sharon then pursued a Master of Continuing Education in Workplace Learning from the University of Calgary from 1996 to 2001. Sharon is currently enrolled at the University of Toronto - Rotman School of Management and is working towards obtaining an ICD.D degree. In addition to their formal education, Sharon has obtained various certifications throughout their career, including Fostering Inclusion and Diversity from the Yale School of Management in 2020, Change Management from Prosci in 2015, and a Myers Briggs Type Indicator certification from Psychometrics Canada in 2011. Sharon also holds certifications as a DDI master trainer from Development Dimensions International in 2001 and an Achieve Global Master Trainer from AchieveGlobal in 1993. Sharon is a member of CPHR BC & Yukon and obtained their CPHR membership in November 2022.
