Celine Smeets

Celine Smeets has extensive work experience in corporate and regulatory governance. Celine held various roles at ICL Group, including Head of Corporate & Regulatory at ICL Europe, Senior Legal Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. In these roles, they maintained high standards of corporate governance and ensured compliance with regulations across approximately 60 ICL entities in Europe. Celine also served as a Member of the Supervisory Board at ICL-IP Terneuzen B.V., where they oversaw the production and sale of industrial products based on Bromine. Additionally, they held a similar position at BK Giulini Food Specialties, where they supervised production facilities and developed additives for the food industry. Prior to these roles, Celine worked as an Associate at Stibbe, specializing in banking and finance, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial litigation. Celine also worked as a Legal Consultant at Euroclear and a Legal Counsel at ING Bank N.V., gaining experience in international loan finance, hedging deals, and derivatives transactions. Celine started their career as an intern at Loyens & Loeff and DLA Piper.

Celine Smeets has a diverse education history. Celine completed the ICSA Governance Leadership Programme in Corporate Governance at The Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland in 2018. Prior to this, they attended INSEAD in 2017 for Business Administration and Management. Celine also holds an LLM degree in Corporate Law from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam), which they pursued from 2009 to 2011. Additionally, they were a fall semester exchange student at the University of California, Berkeley - School of Law in 2010, focusing on Corporate Law at the graduate level. In 2009, they participated in a spring semester exchange program at Stellenbosch University, studying Law. Celine began their educational journey at Utrecht University, where they obtained an LLB degree from the Utrecht Law College (Honors program) from 2006 to 2009. Celine completed their Gymnasium education in Economie en Maatschappij at Bernardinuscollege from 2000 to 2006.
