Joyson Karakunnel has extensive work experience in the field of medicine and biotechnology. Joyson is currently serving as the Chief Medical Officer (interim) at iTeos Therapeutics. Prior to this, they worked as a Venture Partner at Blackbird Laboratories. Joyson has also held positions as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Directors at Precision Biologics, Inc. and PrimeVax Immuno-Oncology. In addition, they have served as the EVP and Chief Medical Officer at Innate Pharma and as the SVP and Chief Medical Officer at Tizona Therapeutics, Inc. Furthermore, Joyson has held leadership positions at Arcus Biosciences, MedImmune, and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Joyson has been involved in medical advisory roles, clinical research, and teaching during their career.

Joyson Karakunnel has a diverse education history. Joyson completed their Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Indiana University - Kelley School of Business from 2021 to 2023. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Pharmacology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore Graduate School from 2004 to 2007. Joyson also pursued a medical internship as a House Surgeon at the University of Madras, Chennai in 1999 to 2000. Joyson holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) from Annamalai University, specializing in Medicine, which they received from 1993 to 1999. Joyson also has dual Bachelor's degrees, a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Microbiology and Immunology, as well as a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology, both earned from the University of Miami from 1990 to 1993. In addition to their academic background, they have additional certifications including FACP from the American College of Physicians and membership in The Phi Beta Kappa Society.
