Juan Manuel Rguez-Baron

Regional Vice Chair, East Pacific - IUCN SSC Marine Turtle Specialist Group at IUCN

Juan Manuel RGUEZ-BARON is an accomplished marine biologist with extensive experience in marine conservation and education. Currently serving as the Regional Vice Chair for the East Pacific within the IUCN SSC Marine Turtle Specialist Group since April 2017, Juan Manuel is also a member of the same group. As a Teaching Assistant at the University of North Carolina Wilmington since August 2016, Juan Manuel contributes to academic endeavors while holding the position of Science Director at JUSTSEA Foundation since June 2015. Previous roles include Coordinator Committee member for Red Colombiana Para la Conservación de Tortugas Marinas from 2009 to 2014 and Scientific Coordinator for Grupo Tortuguero de las Californias from 2011 to 2012. Juan Manuel holds a Ph.D. in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, a Master of Science in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography from Instituto Politécnico Nacional, and a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology from Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano.
