Math Curriculum Designer at IXL Learning

Valerie V. has extensive work experience in the education field, specifically in curriculum design and development. Valerie started their career in 1999 as a Member Acquisition Services Specialist at USAA, where they provided excellent member service and education. From 2005 to 2010, Valerie worked as a General Education Classroom Teacher at Edgewood ISD, teaching students in grades K-5. In 2010, they joined Northside ISD as a Staff Development Leader, Instructional Coach, and Content Specialist, where they played a key role in designing and developing math curriculum and assessment resources for K-5 instruction. Valerie also collaborated with a peer content team to curate standards-aligned assets and resources. During their time at Northside ISD, they participated in a district-wide math curriculum project and launched training for teachers and content specialists. In addition, Valerie worked at Pearson as a PARCC ELA/Math Assessment Scorer from 2015 to 2022 and as a PARCC ELA Assessment Item Writer from 2012 to 2013. Valerie joined IXL Learning in 2022 as a Math Curriculum Designer. Previously, Valerie also served as an Afterschool/Summer Program Site Facilitator at GREATER SAN ANTONIO AFTER-SCHOOL ALL-STARS, where they oversaw operations for an extended day enrichment program and facilitated employee training and meetings.

Valerie V. completed their Bachelor of Arts in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Elementary Education from the University of the Incarnate Word. Valerie attended the university from 2003 to 2005. Afterward, Valerie pursued further education and obtained their Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Texas at San Antonio. Valerie completed this degree program from 2008 to 2011. In addition to their academic achievements, Valerie also obtained a teaching certification from the Texas Education Agency in August 2005.
