Martin M Nyaga

Martin M Nyaga has a diverse work experience in the field of virology and vaccine preventable diseases. Martin M currently holds the position of Director at the WHO Collaborating Centre for Vaccine Preventable Diseases Surveillance and Pathogen at the University of the Free State, starting in September 2020. Additionally, they are an Associate Professor at the UFS-Next Generation Sequencing Unit and Division of Virology, starting in January 2021. Prior to these roles, they worked as a Doctor at the University of the Free State from February 2016. Martin M also served as a Research Fellow and Research Fellow in Virology at the J. Craig Venter Institute from October 2013 to February 2014. Moreover, they held the position of Senior Lecturer/Researcher at the University of the Free State from February 2016 to September 2020. Martin M has also worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at KU Leuven from August 2015 to February 2016 and as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University from June 2015 to February 2016. Their early experience includes working as a Research Scientist and Coordinator of Rotavirus Genomics in Africa at MRC-DPRU, University of Limpopo, MEDUNSA Campus from January 2008 to June 2015.

Martin M Nyaga has a strong educational background in the field of virology. Martin M completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Biotechnology at the University of Nairobi from 2000 to 2004. Following this, they pursued further studies at the University of Limpopo, where they obtained an Hons (Med) degree in Virology from 2008 to 2009. Martin M continued their education at the same institution and completed a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Virology from 2010 to 2012. Martin then proceeded to the University of Limpopo, MEDUNSA Campus, where they achieved a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Virology from 2013 to 2015.
