Bonny has successfully worked in both environmental and clinical sciences and has served in leadership roles in several professional societies including Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC), and American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB). This diverse skill set was well-suited for her role as Laboratory Director of a public health laboratory serving a million people where she simultaneously directed environmental microbiology, environmental chemistry, clinical high complexity including Pb testing, clinical STD testing, adolescent health and point of care testing. Her quality improvement efforts resulted in her receiving the Outstanding Employee of the Year award in 2015, but more importantly the work resulted in a cultural shift across the organization towards LEAN management and CQI.
Over the course of her career in healthcare, academia, public health and the private sector she has written books, research articles and presented numerous times at national meetings and conferences. She has been not only a strong advocate for better laboratory information management, she has successfully implemented systems ranging from instrument (SmartHub) and inventory management (VSR+) systems, to document control (Hyland DKT and PolicyStat), supplies and training request systems (ServiceNow) and a data request system (Futrix). She has also developed standardized approaches to cross-linking the creation, management training and competency assessment for technical documents and processes using CLSI guidelines. She has also participated in teams to develop novel decision support tools specifically to support genomics both in EMRs and for mobile devices. Bonny has filled information gaps in outbreak situations through the novel application of GIS to environmental microbiology and clinical infectious disease testing.
