David Mellert, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning academia and research institutions. David currently serves as the Senior Director of Research Information Technology at The Jackson Laboratory, where they lead initiatives to provide advanced IT platforms for data management, processing, and analysis. Prior to this role, they were the Associate Director of Research IT and also held positions as the Manager of Imaging Solutions and Imaging Systems Analyst at the same organization. Before joining The Jackson Laboratory, David worked as a Sr. Scientific Writer at the institution.
Earlier in their career, David was a Postdoctoral Associate at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, where they focused on studying the factors that shape individuality in neural circuitry and how genetic, environmental, and stochastic variations influence circuit function. David also served as a Graduate Student at Stanford University, specializing in an unknown field, and as a Research Technician at the University of Michigan.
David Mellert, PhD, obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biology/Biological Sciences from the University of Michigan in 2002. David then pursued an advanced degree and earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biology/Biological Sciences from Stanford University in 2009. In addition to their academic qualifications, David also holds additional certifications, including a Private Pilot Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration, a certification in Deep Learning for Computer Vision and Classification from Northeastern University, and a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from The Project Management Institute (PMI). David is also registered with ORCID.
