Marcellis Wilburn

5th Grade ELA Teacher at JACKSON PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT

Marcellis Wilburn has a diverse work experience. Marcellis started their career as an AmeriCorps VISTA at Our House in Little Rock, AR, where they served as a Green Team Lead for 3rd-5th graders in 2016. In this role, they supervised students, mediated family-student situations, and provided resources for families in poverty.

The following year, Marcellis continued their work at Our House as an AmeriCorps VISTA, but this time as a Life Skills Teacher for 1st-12th graders. Marcellis created and implemented lesson plans, teaching various life skills such as manners, hygiene, emotional health, and professionalism.

In 2017, Marcellis also worked as a Freshman Orientation Leader at Howard University. In this role, they conveyed information to new students and their families, assisted with orientation events, and played a vital role in helping new students adjust to campus life.

From 2019-2023, Marcellis worked as a 5th Grade ELA Teacher at Johnson Elementary School in the Jackson Public School Systems. Marcellis was passionate about building their students' writing skills and engaging them in rich pieces of text.

Currently, Marcellis is employed at Measurement Incorporated as a Reader, a position they started in 2023.

Marcellis Wilburn pursued their education with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Administration of Justice from Howard University between 2015 and 2019. Following this, they attended Mississippi College from 2020 to 2023, where they obtained a Master of Education degree specializing in Counselor Education/School Counseling and Guidance Services.
