Christian Janzen is an Associate Principal who works across large-scale education, civic and community projects at Jasmax.
During his 25+ years with the practice, he has developed specialist expertise across various building typologies, particularly tertiary education, laboratory, restoration, refurbishment, and theatre projects. His broad architectural experience across high-profile public and commercial projects has contributed to his strong sensibility in the creation of spaces that meet client expectations and deliver high-quality design responses.
Committed to addressing the primary issues required to firmly establish a project brief, Christian’s liaison skills are regularly utilised to assist clients with project definition. He believes a clear briefing philosophy begins by defining the client’s values from the outset, as well as establishing a clear understanding of the future direction and functional requirements of a project, which become the basis for design.
Christian is currently working on several tertiary education and laboratory projects, including the University of Auckland’s Social Sciences Building (B201) and its Faculty of Medical Health Sciences, and has worked on Antarctica New Zealand's Scott Base redevelopment. Having previously also worked on projects for the Auckland Town Hall, Civic Theatre and St James Theatre, he has a strong affinity for heritage conservation and theatre design.
