Gene Baker has a diverse range of work experience in the aviation and retail industries. Gene began their career as an Avionics Technician at Trans States Airlines in 2009. In 2010, they joined Rockwell Collins as an Avionics Systems Engineer, where they were involved in requirements capture, verification, and validation, customer support, and system design and integration until 2015. Gene then moved to Collins Aerospace, where they held multiple roles including Sr. Avionics Systems Engineer and Sr. Certification Engineer from 2015 to 2022. Gene recently started working at Joby Aviation as a System Engineer in early 2022. Additionally, Gene has retail experience as a Receiving Manager at The Home Depot from 2006 to 2010, where they managed and supervised employees, as well as monitored metrics and operations.

Gene Baker completed their high school education at RHS. Gene then went on to attend Southern Illinois University, Carbondale from 2003 to 2009, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Aviation Technology. In addition to their formal education, Gene has also obtained several certifications. In 2009, they received an Airframe and Power-plant Technician certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In 2008, they obtained the General Radio Telephone Operators License and a Radar Endorsement to GROL from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). In 2012, Gene earned an Inspection Authorization certification from the FAA, followed by a Private Pilot certification in the same year. Their most recent certification, an Instrument Private Pilot, was obtained in 2014 from the FAA.
